Happy Thursday! I hope you are all having a fabulous week. Next week is already Thanksgiving! WOW time seems as though it is moving so quickly. Sunday, Shelby Jean Matonak (Holistic Health Coach, RN, founder of Truth and Alchamey) and I, did a call on how to stay healthy, avoid stress, and weight gain this holiday season! If you missed the call you can listen to the recording here! The holidays can be really warm and nurturing for many people. I always loved the holidays as a kid. It felt like such a magical time. One Christmas that I will never forget is when I was about 10 years old. My cousins and I, put out reindeer food on Christmas Eve. We sprinkled the food over the front lawn and then we put some cookies out and hurried to go to bed. The next morning when we woke up we excited to checked to see if the cookies were eaten and then we rushed to the front porch to see if the reindeer at their snack. Not only did the reindeer eat their food but there reindeer prints and Santa’s boot prints on the
porch! I was so excited and filled with joy! This time of year can bring so much excitement, happiness, and love when we stay open to the magic and receive it. As I have gotten older I have noticed that if we lose sight of the magic or close off it can leave us feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and depleted. It seems like everything is easier when we are kids, I think that’s because we don’t make things complicated! Children are always so eager, excited, open, and willing to receive. As adults we start to feel bad “aw you shouldn’t have” or “you didn’t have to do that/ get me anything”. Sometimes even saying “aw thank you, but I can’t accept this from you”. I want you to take a moment to do a few quick exercises (these are powerful): 1. Take a few deep breaths… and think of a time when you give someone a gift that you really wanted them to have and they received it with so much appreciation. How did this make you feel? Take a moment and feel it in your body, notice how you feel, notice where your body feels open and lighter. 2. Now, take a few deep breaths…and think for a time when you gave someone a gift you really wanted them to have and they opened it and said oh, thank you so much but I can’t accept this from you. How did this make you feel? Any different sensations? Do you feel a little heavier? Maybe tightness? 3. Lastly, think of a time when someone went buy you a gift (maybe even something bigger than what you give) just because you gave them a gift. How does this feel? Most of us all love to give and we are really good at giving but when it comes to receiving we have a hard time. When you feel like you are having a hard time receiving turn things around and pretend you are the giver in your situation and see how things feel. The balance of giving and receiving is so important in order for the MAGIC to happen! Receiving goes beyond receiving presents, it may be receiving help cooking or cleaning around the house. It might be opening up to a friend, letting them in, and letting them support you. In addition to giving this holiday session also practice receiving! And keep your eyes and heart open to the MAGIC this time of year brings! Much Love <3 Lynsey
